Andrew Yan-Tak Ng popularly referred to as Andrew Ng is a British-born American computer scientist, businessman, writer, and investor who was born on April 18, 1976.

As a computer scientist, Ng focuses on AI and machine learning. While as an investor and businessman, he has led and co-founded Google Brain. Andrew Ng is a professor at Stanford University, a pioneer and leader in online education, to the point that he co-founded deeplearning.ai. and Coursera. Additionally, Ng has risen to become one of the most influential and famous computer scientists in the world. In 2012, Ng was named among the 100 Most Influential People by Time magazine. Ng’s other awards include Fortune’s 40 under 40, Fast Company’s Most Creative People in Business both in 2013, CNN 10, in 2014, and World Economic Forum Young Global Leaders in 2015 to mention a few.

Between the years 2011 and 2012, Ng worked at Google, where together with Rajat Monga, Greg Corrado and Jeff Dean founded the Brain Deep Learning Project.

Furthermore, in 2014, Andrew Ng became the Chief Scientist at Baidu where he carried out many types of research relating to AI and big data. That’s not all, he was also able to set up a lot of research teams until he resigned from Baidu in March 2017.

Soon after leaving Baidu, Ng launched Deeplearning.ai which is a series of online courses on deep learning. Ng then came up with an initiative called Landing AI. Landing AI is an initiative that provides AI-powered Transformation Program and SaaS products aimed at empowering enterprises to transform them into leading AI companies.

That said, Ng in January 2018, unveiled the AI Fund where he was able to raise about $175 million to invest in new startups.

In 2019, Andrew Ng developed a new course titled  “AI for Everyone.”  The course is a non-technical course developed to help interested individuals to learn and understand the impact of AI on the society as well as its costs and benefits for companies to help them successfully navigate through a technological revolution.

Andrew Ng’s primary research fields include deep learning, machine learning, machine perception, natural language processing, and computer vision. He has carried out several projects including Stanford University Autonomous Helicopter project, Stanford Artificial Intelligence Robot project which gave birth to the popular open-source robotics software platform ROS, Stanford University’s WordNet project, and many others.

Andrew Ng has also authored and co-authored over 300 published books and papers in robotics, machine learning, and other related fields. However, his work on deep learning and computer vision has featured more in reviews and other press releases.

Ng has co-refereed several publications on AI in journals such as NIPS. Even more, he also served as the editor in chief for the Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research (JAIR), Associate Editor for the Automation Society Conference Editorial Board (ICRA), associate editor for the IEEE Robotics, and several others.

It is also worth mentioning that Ng is a speaker and has presented talks at Lockheed Martin, NASA, Microsoft, Google, the Max Planck Society, Princeton, Stanford, UPenn, MIT, Cornell, UC Berkeley, and several other universities in the US. Outside of America, Ng has also presented talks and lectures in Germany, China, Japan, Israel, Canada, Korea, and Spain.
